plus size dresses

Do you remember playing dress up with their grandmother's plus size dresses? Did you ever see any bright colors or daring designs - probably not unless your grandmother sewed her own clothing or was a fashion rebel. Back in the day navy blue and dark patterns were the norm in plus size dresses. High necklines, long hemlines and boring styles were all that were offered to the plus size woman. A good example of this is the character Aunt Bea in the 1960's show, Mayberry RFD. You never saw this fine lady in anything but her dark color boring dresses. She might get daring with her aprons, but not in public. No it was navy blue and black all the way.

Today take a look on the street and you will see that plus size dresses have finally broken free of that mold. Women are wearing bright colors, exciting prints, lower necklines, higher hemlines and the dresses actually have style and are flattering to the plus size figure. Designers know today women demand chic and trendy styles. Celebrities like Oprah Winfrey and Jennifer Hudson have helped pave the way for stylish plus size dresses. Cinema directors are casting full figure women in sexy and youthful roles while fashion magazines now have several ads featuring plus size models. This is a time when the plus size woman has come into her own.

This season fit and flare plus size dresses are very popular. This design features a bodice that fits and flatters your figure and then flares out into a loose flowing skirt. Many are made in bright colors with very pretty floral detailing around the hem. These are reminiscent of the designs of the 1950's with a new century attitude. Wrap dresses have been popular since they were first introduced by Halston in the 1970's. Today's plus size wrap dresses are cut to accentuate a fuller figure and have pretty detailing like full ruffles and bright lively patterns. If you want a more daring look for a special night, you can even find gold or silver dresses embellished with sequins and jewels.

Plus size dresses are no longer boring. Now you can find sexy and trendy styles to fit any occasion. Aunt Bea would be delighted with the wardrobe choices she would have today. Imagine if your grandmother had a closet full of today's designs, how much fun would that have been to play dress up? Not only are dresses more stylish, but shoes and accessories have also come a long way. Sexy strappy sandals, high heels, and bold jewelry are all now made for the plus size woman who appreciates the latest fashions.
